The Indian printing and printed packaging industry is seeing a rebound. And so, even as most companies are seeing an improvement in their performance in Q3 and many expecting to see further improvements in the Q4, PrintWeek decided to focus on the paper industry.

As MK Goyal, the secretary general of the Indian Pulp and Paper Technical Association (IPPTA) says in his guest editorial in the magazine, "The current status of the paper industry in India, in terms of its overall health, is bullish. Today, Indian paper mills are on a very strong footing. The industry shall grow at 7% minimum for the next 10 years, from the current production level of about 25 million tons per annum."

Noel D'cunha, managing editor of PrintWeek said, "The November issue has a series of interviews with the stalwarts from the paper industry. These interviews have been conducted by Kolkata-based PR Ray, who has been a part of the paper industry since 1970."

D'cunha added, "PR Ray pursued a professional career connected with marketing of finished paper and paper industry raw materials like waste paper and pulp. During his working life in the industry, Ray had the opportunity of learning his skills from many of the stalwarts in the industry."

Ray’s concerns about the future development of the paper industry in India, has led him to conduct these interviews, seeking valuable views from the stalwarts of this industry.

Do look out for three important interviews with Jaiprakash Narain, CEO of Century Pulp & Paper; Dr Ashok Kumar the executive director of Pudumjee Paper Products and Anil Kumar who is the executive director and CEO of Shreyans Industries.

Corrugation industry - special issue
Rising input costs and disruptions in the supply chain have negatively impacted the corrugated packaging industry, putting a dent in its revenues. The energy crisis, economic tensions, increasing freight and fuel rates, and GST levied on corrugated boxes are hurting the already corrugated packaging industry.

This is the theme of the 32-page Corrugation Special.

According to Rahul Kumar of PrintWeek and WhatPackaging? magazines, costs have increased by an additional 30% over the past three months. The rise comes atop at least a 70% rise in the corrugated case manufacturers' raw material costs between January 2020 and March this year. Apart from that, paper mills have been increasing prices every week, where the box manufacturers have to wait for the customers to agree and approve the rate hike. Most of the conversations were about this burning issue.”

Sudhanva Jategaonkar, B2B business head at Haymarket SAC Publishing said, “The corrugation box manufacturing industry is an exciting space – and lots of firms and factories are being profiled for the first time in a magazine. Companies like Vapi-based Aryan who are a well-established player in the Indian Kraft paper and corrugated industry. The company has a strong backup of technically sound persons to develop high RCT paper, besides other physical parameters like using the latest in recycled fibre technology.” Jategaonkar added, “Then there is the newly-built corrugation plant of Meerut Packaging Industries which is a fully automatic set-up, with a focus on reducing pollution and waste.”
