Production at JK Paper in Rayagada unhampered by Cyclone Phailin

JK Paper plant in Rayagada remained unfazed by the outbreak of the dreadly cyclone Phailin in the South of Odisha. The production at the JK Paper plant was unhampered despite of multiple warnings from the state government on disruption of electricity in the industrial areas.

M C Goel, executive vice-president of JK Paper, said, “We had taken all necessary steps to ensure constant running of the plant and that the safety of the employees is not compromised during the cyclonic storm.”

Apart from this, the state government had decided to keep the hydro electric units running, to supply electricity to the industrial units when required. “The water level in the reservoirs had been maintained in such a way that hydro power production is not hampered,” said P K Jena, secretary (energy), Government of Odisha.

JK Papers, the flagship arm of the Singhania group, started its operations at the Rs 1,750 crore Rayagada plant in Odisha later in the month of August. The Rayagada plant contributes to around 60% of their paper production with approximately 2.15 lakh tonnes of pulping annually.
