Pragati Offset has been the recipient of the newly introduced Award, PUR Book Maker of the Year.
Pragati Offset sent in four PUR bound books that were produced in its in-house PUR binding equipment. They are Frames Magazine for Bajaj Finserv – 12,000 copies; Royale Play Catalogue for Asian Paints – 30,000 copies; Divas of Deccan for Neekamal Publication - 1,750 copies; and Rachnotsav Events Academy Brochure for Rachnotsav Events – 3,000 copies.
PUR has only been in bookbinding since about 1989, but was seen in production during PrintPack India 2011 at the Welbound stall, where it produced annual diaries. Since then a few of the printers, including Pragati have brought in PUR systems to bolster their post-press armoury. PUR has come to be valued for premium books, annual reports, catalogues, directories and magazines.
Each of the products sent by Pragati had something unique. For example, the Frames Magazine had high ink coverage and was an upmarket magazine; hence it needed a high binding strength at the same time eliminating the need to sew.
The Royale Play Catalogue had swatches of Royale Play effects in both regular and metallic versions. Pragati used 12-colours and print in two passes. Since catalogues tend to be handled extensively by multiple customers, Pragati used PUR binding, it says.
According to Pragati Offset, PUR has allowed it to give the highest strength to its produce, without the need for sewing/pinning. And the judges were pleased by the PUR’s “non-wrinkling” in the gutter area, a problem that is prevalent with traditional adhesive.
The printing of the entries was done on mitsubishi press in cmyk plus online coating.
