Ramani, as associate director and principal consultant, at first will focus on project consultancy for printing companies planning to start or expand digital print projects. This includes assisting clients in making the right project decisions on print engines, software, finishing lines, ancillary equipment and plant construction.

“Based on the specific current and future business needs of our clients, we will bring to bear our technical knowledge and insight on the opportunities and pitfalls of the Indian and global markets for the print industry,” said Viswanathan, though he thinks printers may be initially reluctant to take on consultants to advise them on investments say in digital printing. “I see the scenario change, with more forward thinking of them understanding that digital technology is not only about print engines, but also about workflow, finishing and the like.”

Viswanathan is a known figure in the print industry, having spent more than 20 years in the printing and imaging markets in India and the sub-continent, with his most recent assignment being vice president – sales, digital printing solutions at Kodak India.

IppStar’s managing director, Naresh Khanna, said, “Viswanathan is an experienced, knowledgeable and forthright professional – for us he is not just the principal project consultant for digital and offset in the direct mail, commercial, publishing and packaging space but also an important addition to our leadership team. We expect him to help our organization in the training and research space as well. Above all, the addition of Viswanathan means that we are on the way to building a great professional business services company for the huge and fast growing Indian print industry.”
