Speaking with PrintWeek India, Bhargav Mistry, managing director of Grafica Flextronica and director of DMI, explained their new work structure. The institute’s first three-day workshop will commence on 8 June followed by regular workshops on advanced screen printing process, combined with print finishing.

DMI has included hands-on-training exclusively for Grafica’s customers as a part of the program. So far, nearly 1200 print professionals across the globe have been benefitted and have improved their firm’s efficiency and profitability by attending the screen printing course at DMI.

Michel Caza, international screen printing expert and consultant, who gave the very first workshop at DMI in 2006, blessed DMI for bringing such high quality knowledge about screen printing to all screen print lovers. According to Caza, inkjet and screen printing are the two printing technologies that will boom in the coming years. Caza wished DMI success, with a hope that the new session, under the guidance of Mistry and Grafica will be a bigger hit than before.

Located within Grafica’s premises in Vasai, the new DMI facility includes automatic and semi-automatic screen printing machines, complete screen making set up that includes pneumatic fabric stretching clamps, screen dryer, automatic emulsion coating system, screen exposing unit, digital press for film output, ink kitchen, drying/curing equipment, advanced colour management system, and QC tools used in advanced screen printing process. It contains all the tools and equipment required to upgrade one’s knowledge in every aspect of screen printing.

Two other international print consultants, Mike Young and Dawn M Hohl-Nowlin, congratulated DMI for their commendable effort. They view DMI’s workshops as interactive sessions in providing a unique learning experience that bridges the gap from theory to practice, giving participants the skill and knowledge to improve their efficiency and quality, and ultimately profitability of a company.

In its previous session, DMI took several initiatives to promote advanced screen printing process and educate printers about its wide range of applications. The session included around 50 workshops, 25 roadshows and an educative video film called ‘Screen on Screen’ (SOS), narrating the advantages of automation, applications and processes of screen printing.

Director of Print Dynamic, Akhil Contractor praised Mistry for creating this training facility with an innovative ability, single minded dedication, unmatched technical expertise and brilliant insight into the current and future industry needs. “Screen, in spite of being the heart of screen printing is often neglected due to lack of knowledge. After getting education from DMI, many of the printers have started using good quality mesh, emulsion and started tensioning the screen,” said Jayesh Shah, director of Indian Dyes Sales Corporation.

“The workshop is not only about teaching and learning but about inculcating the learning and bringing it into practise,” said Amit Kumar, proprietor of Jugal Arts. He learnt all technicalities of screen printing starting with mesh selection, importance of clean room, use of UV special effects, set up of screen printing unit, screen tension, colour separation technique and much more which helped him any many others to update their knowledge.

Anil Brahmbhatt, president of Screen printing & Graphics Association of India (SGAI), appreciated Mistry for providing the education and information that printers need today. “DMI has enabled hundreds of printers from across the country to develop their operations and opt for automation,” said a grateful Brahmbhatt.

DMI has won many national and international awards including ASPT and FESPA students' competitions. Several other print experts congratulated DMI for their noble work of educating printers with the sole objective of taking printers to International standard.

PrintWeek India congratulates DMI and wishes Grafica success for their new endeavor.
