The Ricoh Pro C5200 series comprises of the Pro C5200s and Pro C5210s, targeted for use by commercial printers, new as well as those using refurbished machine, and copier shops, producing runs of 10,000 to one-lakh impressions per month.

“We opted to launch the digital presses in Mumbai because it’s the print hub. It’s also the place where we have a good share, around 10-15% of our machine installations,” said Umang Singhal, national business and marketing manager for production printing at Ricoh. In 2016-17, Ricoh has installed around 225 units, both entry- and mid-segment digital presses.

The two printers run at maximum speeds of 65ppm and 80ppm respectively, both printing at a maximum resolution of 1,200x4,800dpi. The presses use its own controller to produce poster print of up to 13x49-inch (330x1,300mm), but the buyer has an option to pick an EFI Fiery digital front-end too. The presses has the ability to copy and scan jobs of up to 220 images per minute using the standard 220-sheet document feeder which scans duplex colour in a single pass.

Singhal said, the difference in its previous model Pro 5100s and the present models is the image quality and the ability of the new kit to print on substrate thickness. “The new presses can print on up to 360gsm media thickness.”

The machine uses a new chemical ink based on the Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology and PxP-EQ toner technology, which Prasanna Rajagopalan, product training manager and product printing business unit at Ricoh, said, delivers vibrant and vivid colour, besides print quality that is closer to offset.

“Our new developments are based on market trends, which is clearly moved from offset to digital, according to reports. There are more larger prints, high-end products, and use of media other than the paper being used,” said Rajagopalan. He added, “New developments in the Pro C5200 series allows for printing on media like Tyvek.”

For booklet production, the series also comes with the optional addition of a Plockmatic cover interposer and booklet finisher with saddle stitching and folding capabilities.

Ricoh hopes to install over 100 of the Pro 5200 series presses in India. “The benefits that the kit brings to the users are significant, and it is that which gives us the confidence with the numbers,” concluded Singhal.
