Royal Offset steps into digital printing with Xerox, Duplo

While the Duplo finishing machine has already arrived, the Xerox equipment is on its way. “We are impressed with the heritage of Xerox in digital print production. This is the reason we decided to invest in it,” said Vikas Arora of Royal Offset.

Meanwhile, the Duplo machine is yet to go functional for obvious reasons. “Since it is print finishing equipment, we need print first to feed it,” said Arora. “We are waiting for the Xerox Versant to arrive.”

The Duplo DC 646 is capable of slitting, cutting and creasing both ways – horizontal and vertical.

Arora said offset and digital would be separate productions and would be handled by different teams. A team of six people will handle the digital production unit.

Arora believes that the digital wing of Royal Offset will complement the existing business. “We see growth in short and very short-run print runs,” he said. “We want to give confidence to our existing and new customers that if they need few books, we can do it for them. In the process, we are establishing ourselves as complete solution provider for commercial and books printing.”

According to Arora, another major market is visiting cards since everyone requires visiting cards and cards change often due to promotion, new job and changes in company’s logo, address and so on.

More than digital print, however, Arora believes finishing is an aspect that needs more involved attention. “Customers go to a digital printing facility because of quick delivery, and if you do not have finishing equipment, then there is no benefit for customers. You will print fast but you will be stuck in finishing. So, according to me, finishing is more important,” he said.

The existing Royal Offset plant is equipped with a full-fledged pre-press house and consumes around 100 plates per day.

In press, the books printing company have Komori LS429 and Ryobi 924. “Now, our focus is on fabrication, and we will be investing more in the segment. Last year, we installed a Stahl paper folding machine and a Polar automatic paper cutting machine,” he said.

The ISO 9001:2008 certified company, with stuff strength of 30 people, converts 50 tonnes of paper per month.
