A printing machinery can be tricky if not used properly, and safety aspects are therefore critical to ensure the well-being of operators and other workers in the printing environment.

Some safety aspects of printing machinery, such as movement of machine parts, electric energy, sharp edges, heat, noise, and chemicals, among others, may create hazards for workers/operators, while operating the printing machine. Design measures cannot avoid all these above hazards because of the functional requirement of the machine/mechanism. Hence, safety measures are required to protect the operator from these hazards.

Hence, safety codes and standards are critical to ensuring the safe and efficient operation of printing machinery and equipment, said Harjinder Singh, chairman for education and training at All India Federation of Master Printers. “They provide a framework for developing safe and reliable equipment, protecting workers and reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.”

Singh, in collaboration with Rajneesh Khosla, scientist, senior director and head (MED) and Lokraj Meena, scientist and assistant director at the Bureau Of Indian Standards, has published a technical paper titled Safety Aspects of Printing Machinery and Standardisation.
