SansRack Publishing Solutions, a Chennai-based technology start-up launched the country’s first ‘on demand’ book distribution platform at the New Delhi World Book Fair 2016, which was held at Pragati Maidan from 9-17 January 2016.
According to the company, the platform will enable publishers of all sizes to bring their entire catalogue to life. Working with both domestic and international publishers, SansRack aims to eliminate the word ‘out-of-print’ from the publishing world and to also make international books that are usually imported into India to be produced locally and sold at affordable prices to Indian readers.
Sreekumar Narayanan, co-founder of SansRack, said, “We believe that a good book is an asset not only to the publisher but to society at large. Traditionally, a publisher prints copies of a book in bulk and then phases the book out over a period of time. Over the past decade, so many wonderful books have been lost because it was not commercially viable for the publisher to keep the book alive. Now, our technology, coupled with our ability to print even a single copy on demand allows publishers to monetise their backlist or out-of-print titles at zero cost and to make all of these titles available to readers forever.”
SansRack has been running in beta phase for the past 18 months, working with top publishers like Taylor and Francis, Hachette, Packt Publishing, Oxford University Press and many others, to make their titles available to Indian readers at affordable prices. With the launch of its platform with over 1 million titles, SansRack aims to bring all its titles to Indian readers via its online sales partners like Flipkart, Amazon and Paytm.
“Working on a print-on-demand basis requires a lot of efficiencies and it took us over 18 months to acquire a sizeable number of titles and test the robustness of our technology in the market. We are proud to say that we are one of the few companies in the world that can provide ‘Live Sales Tracking’ to publishers with useful information like sales details, earnings and geography of the buyers for each title. This kind of live information gives insights to publishers to help plan their marketing activities based on data. We have also created deep integrations with our sales channels to make titles available on these eCommerce sites with a click of a button,” Sreekumar added.
SansRack hopes to expand its catalogue to 5 million titles and add more sales channels by the end of this year.
Sreekumar said SansRack will also help Indian authors give an opportunity to explore the international market. Not only this, the technology will help International authors to market and make their books available with no extra cost in India.
