Staff training is a key point in most discussions. And yet, many Indian print CEOs appear sceptical: “What if I train them, and they leave.” It’s amusing to see this scepticism fade away and fright take-over when they are presented with a contradictory setting: “What if you don’t train them – and they stay!”, Business
At this point, I recall Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson, an English business magnate, best known for his Virgin brand of over 360 companies. He once said: “Train people well enough so they can leave; treat them well enough so they don’t want to.”
At the NPES conference, Macro Boer, vice president, IT Strategies, said, “The correlation between the efficiency of staff which was related to print volumes is in a state of decline.”
One thing is obvious: Even if training doesn’t resolve all the tribulations, it will definitely help bolster the efficiency of the workforce. The monthly Seekho aur Samjho workshops aim to do exactly this, to better your workforce.
Now in its second year, SaS has signed up with the print technologist and colour expert Kiran Prayagi for 12 sessions, starting October 2016, on colour management lessons in pre-press, pressroom, and post-press areas. The sessions will commence from October 2016.
Meanwhile, a workshop on UV inks for packaging will be hosted by Prashant Atre of Toyo Ink Arets on 22 April at SIES in Navi Mumbai. In this session, Atre will cover the fundamentals UV printing for packaging, especially MetPet applications. The BMPA office has informed that the session is expected to be houseful as the registrations gain momentum. Among the biggies, Sanjay Patel of Param Packaging, Harshad Patel of Perfect Print & Pack and Nitin Shah of Award Offset have confirmed attendance for the session.
Another interesting SaS session is scheduled for 7 May, which according to BMPA president Faheem Agboatwala is a must-attend session for every firm, small or big, which deploys computers at their workplace. This workshop on data handling, security, and intellectual property will be conducted by Shiv Udayar of Mail Order Solutions.
The BMPA office informed that the 17 June session will be a special SaS workshop on operations of die-cutter and folder-gluer from Bobst. “This will be a full-day workshop for the operators and maintenance staff conducted by a team of experts headed by Sunil Khodke of Bobst.
PrintWeek India is part of this initiative along with SIES (Nerul) and GIPT (CST Station) and of course BMPA. I urge all print CEOs in and around Mumbai to send “at least one” member of staff to the monthly SaS sessions in order to augment the skill sets of your team.
