Sawant: "Shopfloor experience will drive you to success"

"You must slog yourself for few months on the shopfloor in the intial stages and then you can attain heights in your career," said Rupesh Sawant of Superlekha Press, while addressing the students of printing and packaging technology department of SIES Graduate School of Technology during first Masterclass session.

Masterclass is a monthly series of sessions conceptualised by PrintWeek India and SIES GST with the help of BMPA members. During Masterclass, a print personality shares his success story with the students.
 
In presence of an audience of over 150 students, Sawant revealed to Noel D'cunha of PrintWeek India, his growth trajectory in the industry and explained how lucrative is the print industry.
 
Enthusing a thought of entrepreneurship among students, Sawant said, "Keep your eyes open and you will find the need for print is everywhere." Sawant asked the audience as to how many of them had their own visiting cards to which only two students asserted positively. Sawant said, "Opportunities are everywhere. Grab them."
 
Sawant also shared his experiences during his visit to Drupa and how his interaction with Bala of Proteck changed his mindset towards the importance of automation in his unit.

Sawant stressed on the importance of working on the shopfloor. "When you achieve shopfloor experience, you attain the confidence to make decisions when you work as a sales person or a quality control executive or even as a print-buyer," added Sawant. He suggested to the faculty members to incorporate a six month industrial training programme as a part of the syllabus and invited students to visit his press for internship.
 
During a technical session, which forms a part of Masterclass, Sawant explained the conventional deep-etch platemaking process and the latest CTP platemaking process with video presentations. 
 
The two-hour session also had Sachin Shardul, technical editor of PrintWeek India discuss award-winning print samples produced by top printing companies of India.
 
The Masterclass programme will be held on the last Friday of each month.
