The first session was presented by Asher, who gave a glimpse of what solar power cells are and how they can be used in conjunction with the grid electricity to provide cost savings on a long run. His talk focussed on solar power from 1KW to 5MWs for print industry
The second and the final session was delivered by Sawant on how printers can use waste to make/save money through proper waste management systems. His detailed talk showed what complications the printers are facing with waste management treatments. He said, “Print industry is considered as the red and orange category as per the Maharashtra pollution control Board (MPCB) in the state.” The fundamental here is clear – if you are polluting the environment, you have to clean it.
He touched upon the subject of cost saving for any printing press. In this he emphasised on two examples, the refrigeration of press room using polyurethane foam (PUF) insulation. Sawant said, he himself was able to attain a temperature of four degree with a one ton air conditioner, helping him cutdown investments and reduce electricity consumption. He also mentioned that the use of central capacitors for controlling power factor and harmonics, can reduce the power consumption.
The session was summed up with Sawant urging the members to hire a consultant to help them with waste management.
