Shaun Pullen of Rotometrics says retail sector driving label growth
Rotometrics’ general manager Shaun Pullen, speaking to PrintWeek India, said that the growth of the label industry is mainly because of the growth of the retail sector. “We are now seeing more and more labels becoming fancy.”

According to Pullen the labels are moving from four-colour or five-colour to 10-colour with new technologies on the horizon. “There are machines that can print on a substrate as thin as 12 micron PET liner which can make labels more eco-friendly and sustainable,” he said.
At Labelexpo India, the Rotometrics are showcasing a range of their rotary tooling and converting solutions which includes dies; die-cutting stations; and hot stamp and emboss among other things. The supplies of flexible dies are made through its Thailand plant. "Initially, I thought we would have a little bit of trouble supplying out of Thailand into India. But we have had a couple of large Indian converters see our plan in Thailand and they came out and said “wow”.” The company claims that it can supply into India in 48 hours. The other toolings are made either in Australia or USA and UK.
Pullen was all praise for the Labelexpo, which he said has grown exponentially, both in quality and size. “When I first came here there were very small, 3x3 booth and most were information booth with a couple of major players like Gallus and FIG. But now all major players are here and are showing their machines too. From an industry point of view, it’s an exponential growth and I am proud to be part of that.”
