The pandemic years have been very challenging for the print and packaging industry. However, some did not give up and kept improving and innovating their product offerings in their confined spaces during the lockdown. Some worked on minimising wastage and providing consistent quality.
The 14 categories under the PrintWeek Quality Awards will be looking at such products, celebrating the efforts to build a unique product even during troubled times.
Kalpak Shah, senior executive - Awards and Events at PrintWeek and WhatPackaging? magazines said, “Judges will be looking at the quality of your print and packaging jobs under 14 different categories encapsulated in PrintWeek Quality Awards, be it a commercial job or private/limited editions.”
Apart from the legacy categories of PrintWeek Awards, there are some unique categories this year. For instance, this year we have introduced a new category – Paper Bag Printer of the Year. The demand for paper bags is tremendous, and it was evident after the ban on single-use plastics on 1 July 2022.
The ban on plastics has led to many bag businesses shifting to producing paper-based bags. According to Shah, this category encompasses all types of printed paper-based bags.
“The award-winning entry will illustrate the highest quality print and production values, to actually being fit for purpose, whether that be 'selling' the contents or keeping them safe from harm - or both,” Shah said, adding, “However, there will be no restriction on shapes or sizes of packaging produced.”
Other categories include Book Printer of the Year, Packaging Converter of the Year, Digital Printer of the Year, Digital Photo Album Printer of the Year, Innovative Printer of the Year, Label Printer of the Year, and Pre Media Company of the Year (some categories have more than one sub categories).
