Angad Minhas, director, SJ Packaging, said, “We wanted to increase our speed of production and automatic folding-gluing was the process where we were lacking because of an old generation machine. Thus, the folder-gluer became the need of the hour. We installed the folder-gluer from Robus India because of the way Prem Viswakarma and his team helped us understand how a new generation machine will help us explore more opportunities. More than 80% of our clients come from the shoe industry and the shoe boxes are short and wide. This is our first machine from Robus India.”

Minhas said in the shoe industry normally the boxes were stitched and so the company didn’t require the folder-gluer. Now the industry is shifting from stitched to glued boxes. So there was a need for a folder-gluer.

Other reasons for investing in the machine, according to Minhas, were deduction in labour cost, higher productivity and efficiency.

“We needed a folder-gluer to complete jobs faster and with more accuracy. We are stitching around 65,000-70,000 inner cartons in 12-hour operations with five stitching machines. By adding the folder gluer, we will be converting 40% more,” Minhas said.

SJ Packaging, earlier known as Super Press, was started by Late sardar Baldev Singh Minhas & Surinder Kaur Minhas in early 80s. Later, Jatinder Minhas joined the family-owned business in the early 90s and shifted the production unit from a residential area to an industrial area in 1995. In 2016, Angad Minhas, the third generation, joined the business.

“We entered the business as a shoe lifter & grey board box maker and gradually developed ourselves. From 1995, we have been running a full-scale printing and corrugation unit. We have semi-automatic factory equipped with automatic die-cutters, folder-gluers, fingerless corrugators, flute laminators and other equipment,” Minhas said.

The company has two five-colour offset printing presses and converts around 300-tonnes of kraft paper and paper board per month.

SJ Packaging is an ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 22000:2005-certified company and a team of 65 people work in the company’s 21,000-sqm owned space.
