SmartCard Expo brings together the latest in technology

The 17th edition of SmartCards Expo 2015 opened at Pragati Maidan on 22 September 2015. The event, organised by Electronics Today, the techno-economics electronics monthly, is on until 24 September.

The show is accompanied by a cluster of other related shows. These include e-Security Expo 2015, RFID India Expo 2015, Biometrics India Expo 2015, e-PaymentsIndia Expo 2015 and India Mobile Forum 2015. The expo also boasts an international conference on ‘make in India secure identification devices’, covering smart card, e-security, RFID, and so on.
 
About 125 companies from 25 countries are highlighting their expertise, from security smartcard printing machine to complete security solution to the latest technology at the SmartCard Expo and the co-located events. A special feature of this year’s show is the French Pavilion organised by the consulate general of France in Mumbai. 
 
On display are services and products like smart cards, chip cards, magnetic stripe cards, laser cards, contactless cards, logical access control system, open and closed networks, identification systems, certification systems, product monitoring and management, card networks, telephony GSM, physical access control systems, photo and hologram, biometrics, card manufacturers and embedders and manufacturers of electronic components.
 
SmartCard Expo 2015 has an eclectic mix of exhibitors, including machine manufactures and service providers like Zebra Technologies, Viva Graphic, HID Global, Madras Security Printers, AdvanIDe Pte, Apollo Colours, Barnes International, Bitel, Cardmatix, Calypso Networks Association, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Evolis Card Printer, Cursor Soft, E-cartes Technology, Digital Factors FZCO, Arjo Systems, BG Ingenierie, KL Hi-Tech, and more.
 
A smart card (also called chip card, or integrated circuit card) is any pocket-sized card with embedded integrated circuits, made of polyvinyl chloride, but sometimes polyethylene terephthalate-based polyesters, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or polycarbonate. These cards can be either contact or contactless card. Smart cards can provide personal identification, authentication, data storage, and application processing. They may provide strong security authentication for single sign-on within large organisations.
 
At the expo, Cardmatix has impact tester, dynamic bending tester, bending stiffness tester, tensile tester on display. On the other hand, Shreenath Smart Technologies is showcasing desktop card embossers, EPIC card printer, smart card printers (Zebra ZXP Series 7 and Series 8). Barnes International is showcasing card, ticket and media magnetic stripe, quality control analyser, vIsa GPR, magnetic stripe analysers, marg-tester and global platform test tools.
