The wide gamut of products offered by SMI includes variety of paper and filmic face material, security solutions and filmic liners along with glassines, clay coated krafts as release liners.
Ajay Mehta, director, SMI, said, “Labelexpo Europe is the Mecca of all label shows. The label printers from all corners of the world are present and we are able to meet them at one place. We meet up new prospective clients and it is also a great place to interact with all our customers and suppliers from across the world.”
According to Mehta, retail is the key for Indian label market. He said, “Till now India has been an unorganised market. With growing awareness among the consumers as well as manufacturers, there is a huge potential that is building up. Major companies have realised that the concentration of middle class is no longer restricted to metropolitan cities. The movement towards tier two cities is progressing at a fast pace. Variety of packaged goods are being made available to these consumers albeit in smaller packaging . This is opening up avenues for all connected.”
“We do not see any threat emerging. It is a fact there will be challenges like volatile currency fluctuations and we will have to adapt to the same. Other technologies like shrink sleeves , in mould labels, liner less labels etc will all be there and all technologies will coexist. The growth percentage may be different for each technology,” added Mehta.
Speaking about the current economic crises, Mehta said, “During the economic crisis and meltdown there is bound to be volatility in currency. The sentiments may slowdown for a limited period of time. However for meeting the demand, infrastructure will have to come in place. Costs will obviously change and will have to be taken into account. It is going to be very important to have healthy balance sheets to grow.”
