Seven 1:1,00,000 scale geological maps and two 1: 50,000 scale quaternary maps to be printed have been compiled and digitised using Microstation (DGN format).

According to the tender, 500 copies of each map are to be printed and the bids are expected to be received from the bidders on or before 1pm (Sri Lankan standard time), Thursday, 13 September  2012.

Chairman of the procurement committee of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) of Sri Lanka said, "A major function of the GSMB is to prepare and publish geological maps of the country. Fifteen 1:1,00,000 scale geological sheets have already been printed and published with the assistance of British Overseas Assistance programme and AusAid."

According to GSMB, the objective of this tender is to identify a suitable institution or company capable of four-colour offset printing of high quality geological maps on par with or better than the already published maps.

The chairman added, "Several attempts in the past to print these maps have failed mainly due to lack of local facilities for printing such large format maps."

The bidders are expected to have experience and capability in four-colour offset printing of high quality geological maps with minimum 70x74cm and maximum 110x79cm printable size range. Bidding documents and sample copies of the maps can be downloaded from www.gsmb.gov.lk.
