In June, Heidelberg unveiled a new logo with a revamped, coloured ‘H’, designed to reflect “The three customer touch points of service, equipment and consumables”.

Chief executive Gerold Linzbach said Heidelberg is pledging a “return to growth” in the future, despite posting sales down 4% for 2014/2015. This includes a 15-month contribution from Gallus.
Linzbach hinted about the Drupa 2016 launches. In all likelihood, the focus is on inkjet digital printing systems for commercial print and packaging. Heidelberg is “intensifying” its joint venture with Fujifilm for digital printing and will expand “primarily in the areas of printing chemicals, inks and coatings."

In news that would interest Indian print industry, the Heidelberg group also offloaded a chunk of its post-press operation through deals with Muller Martini and Masterwork Machinery, which contributed to the sales decline.

Durst Rho 1312

What do you do when you need to print on aluminum, Correx, Foamex and cardboard?

The 2.5m-wide Rho 1312 from Durst is a good bet. The kit is capable of printing 620sqm/hr and features what Durst calls Gradual Flow Printing, which prints a 1.25x2.5m image with a wide array that does not need to scan back and forth across the media.

The media remains stationery during printing, while low UV pinning of the ink film during printing fixes the image, enabling curing to take place in an external UV dryer, leading to improved printing on heat-sensitive materials and corrugated board. Colour configurations are standard CMYK and optional light cyan, light magenta and process colour addition (orange plus either green or violet). The printer has a drop size of 12pl.

The Rho 1312 was launched during Fespa 2014.

During 2015, Durst showcased its first 2.5m wide-format printer using the technology, the Rho WT 250 HS.
