Star Colourpark installs India's first Xerox iGen 150 press
Coimbatore-based Star Colourpark has recently added several machines to its shopfloor in the last few months. After adding a Horizon perfect binder in November, the company has now become the first digital printer in India to install a Xerox iGen 150 digital production press.

K Janakarajan, managing director, Star Colourpark said, “We have been catering to the commercial printing segment from a long time and wanted to strengthen our footprint in the digital photobook segment. With the bigger size and higher volume promise offered by iGen 150, we were sure that it fits perfectly with the need of our operations. We have opted for the Dry Matte ink option with the press which will help us provide excellent print results to our customers.”
The digital printing company, which started its operations in 1991, was registered as a private limited firm in 1999. Since the last 22 years of operations, the company has opened six branches in Coimbatore along with a branch in Erode and two branches in Chennai running state-of-the-art digital equipment.
Janakarajan says that he had first seen the machine during Drupa and since then has been contemplating to have it on its shopfloor. “Currently, we have a volume of 1.5 lakh A3 sheets a month. With the iGen we plan to double it by the end of 2014,” adds Janakarajan.
The machine offers a media size of 14.33x26 inches, and a print resolution of 2400x2400dpi. Xerox claims that its automated image-on-paper technology eliminates manual setups for sheet sizes up to 26 inches and the IntegratedPlus finishing solution for booklets removes the complexities of preparing files to finisher specifications. Single-point transfer prints around 150 prints per minute.
The installation is also interesting as Colourpark was once known for being one of the first installers of many previous Xerox digital printing machines in Coimbatore. However, in the last few years, the digital printing company had bought four Canon VP 7000 presses for its Coimbatore unit, and even installed few Konica Minolta Bizhubs.
In total the company’s shopfloor is powered by six colour presses from Canon, three from Konica Minolta and one from Xerox. In addition to the digital presses, Colourpark has also bought a case-making machine from Megabound in December.
