The answers to these questions would make the printing company achieve the standardisation set by Graphic Measure International (GMI).
Animesh Kejriwal of Parksons Graphics presented the different parameters that printers need to achieve the quality standards.
The set of 20 questions was divided into various sections ranging from pre-press, press and post-press. Kejriwal put forth questions for printers related to the plates, the devices used to measure the different calibrations, softwares used during the pre-press, temperature and humidity in the CTP rooms, treatment of water before printing, lights and lighting controls, punch die management system and a quality control procedure after the job is done.
“Every print house needs to have someone assigned to do regular check–ups. It’s not only important to measure the job but also to measure the measuring tools,” said Kejriwal.
Kejriwal added “We normally tend to use shortcuts. We know about these things but we don’t take any extra effort to do it. Having a proper management system to look into the various sections helps in improving efficiency and save costs.”
GMI is required for printers as one of the standardisation criteria in order to acquire jobs from overseas.
The future of STB for their season three was also discussed during the meet.
Iqbal Kherodawala of Printline Reproductions concluded “STB is to share knowledge among the printers. If there is no sharing then there is no benefit.”
