Rao has worked as an engineer in MICO for more than 20 years, post which he entered into screen printing business. He said, “I started screen printing as a hobby but it turned into a profession. Although, there is good wave about the digital print but it still has its limitations; digital cannot compete with the speed (production) and cost that screen printing offers in garment printing.”

Rao says, “We have a design studio and we do sell designs in the market. We are the only company in Bengaluru with all facility in garment printing. Digital printing is still an evolving technology and can be used for limited jobs. While the screen printing still plays a major role in garment industry and that’s where the digital cannot compete. Similarly, screen printing cannot compete with digital in terms of image reproduction. Printing larger quantities in digital is very expensive. Digital is good for small run jobs. Both the technologies have their own limitations. It’s up to us on how we make the best use of the technologies.”

“Attending trade shows helps as one gets to know new technologies, ideas, interact with industry experts and get inspiration to do innovative jobs. Screen printing will remain a versatile printing process to print on any kind of substrates. Only methods have to be changed to improve quality,” he concludes.

Rao spends his leisure time in painting and drawing. Sai Techno Graphics was established in 1994 as a garment printing service provider. The company owns Grafica’s Nano-Print Tag and Grafica’s Cam Shell. Their current production capacity in screen printing is 25, 000 pieces per day and pre-press setup is in-house.
