Daman, Vapi and Silvassa is witnessing growth in packaging printing. The printing firms are investing in technology to cater the growing demand of packaging products.

Orient Press

Spread over 13 acre, Orient Press has carton, gravure, book and security printing division. For carton printing, it has two Manroland 700 six-colour with coater interdeck press, three die-cutting machines, two folder-gluers, lamination machines among others. The gravure division has two printing machines. The book printing division has three Line O Matic book printing machines, one two-colour and six-colour Heidelberg press.

Subrata Chakraborty, factory manager at Orient Press, says, “There has been growing demand for UV. The food manufacturing companies are demanding UV treatment for their packaging as it increases attraction of the buyer. Today, for example Amul demands UV for its 250gm ghee pack same is the case for the masala manufacturing companies. UV printing is a tedious process as compared to the conventional printing. But the demand is increasing.”

Param Packaging

Param Packaging a professional packaging printing unit is equipped with quality control lab, ink kitchen for matching different shades of inks and strong printing department which has two Heidelberg CD102 six-colour one for UV printing and one for conventional printing. The post-press consists of two die-cutting, cutting, lamination and one manual punching machine. The quality control lab is equipped with all the necessary equipment. The packaging firm issues a quality certificate for every job to its clients. The pre-press department is powered by Esko and have recently invested in Kodak CTP which will arrive in two weeks. The firm is planning to attain ISO certification in next two months.

Zero Grafix

Start up pre-press bureau Zero Grafix has invested in Fujifilm Luxel 8800 CTP platesetter to cater to the printing industry in in Vapi, Daman and Silvassa.

Shrirang Sahasrabudhe a print professional, who was one of the jury members during PrintWeek India Awards 2010 has left Ergo India to start Zero Grafix. 

Shrirang Sahasrabudhe, says, “There are more than 125 packaging printing firms and all do not have the facility of CTP platemaking. We will be catering to the firms who do not have in-house CTP. In the initial phase, we will be supplying 2,000 plates per month which will gradually increase.”

“After the survey of the printing industry in these cities, we have invested in platesetter which can take up plates of 28 inch x 40 inch size. This is a common size and has four build-in cassettes. A fifth cassette can be added,” he added.

Besides starting pre-press bureau, Sahasrabudhe also plans to start a consultancy services.

Saptagiri Packaging

Saptagiri Packaging has a huge setup. The 2 acre plant has Heidelberg presses, three Bobst die-cutters, automatic laminator which laminates colour printed top liner and corrugated board. The company converts 350 tone board every month and is undergoing change both in terms of staff and technology.
