Avinashilingam University conference highlights environment-friendly printing

Inaugurating the conference, Rajashree Ashok, full-time managing director of Autoprint Machinery, in her keynote ‘Responsibility to strike a balance with nature in the print-pack industry’ said a life where people worshipped nature and were inherently responsible for the safety and wellbeing of nature and thereby our own selves is necessary. Addressing the students she added that as the next generation printer community, they must consciously work towards the go-green policy.

The conference activities included technical talk by experts speaking of areas related to the conference theme, presentation of papers that were submitted earlier, peer reviewed, plagiarism checked and published in the conference proceedings, poster presentation by students and five stalls exhibiting students projects – packaging models, manual screen printing machine, dust free gumming machine, table top creasing machine, print finished products, live 3D printing and augmented reality.

The four technical talks were on the topics ‘Environment for a friendly offset printing’, ‘The tour of Tamil typography with environment awareness’, ‘Facing healthy challenges naturally’, ‘Eco–friendly measures in GOI press’ presented by K Panthala Selvan, UGRA print consultant of Pressman Academy, S Narayanan, deputy art director of India Today, Chennai, Shilpa Shah, lifestyle health consultant and M Balaji, technical officer, Government of India Press, Coimbatore respectively.

The conference also saw 16 technical and concept papers selected for publication with topics such as deinking waste papers, green certification of printing industries, biodegradable packages, reducing plastic waste, managing waste in press units, the environmental impact of automation, etc. The winners were from Manipal Institute, Anna University and alumni of Avinashilingam University.

The audience for the conference was a heterogeneous group of academicians, members from the printing and allied industries, members of printer association in Tamil Nadu, alumni of the department and also parents of students of the department.
