The project was initiated in 2018 when TCPL signed a Letter of Intent with Tata Steel Special Economic Zone (a 100% subsidiary of Tata Steel) for the new facility.
Constructed over an area of 16 acres in the Gopalpur Industrial Park, which is host to a 55,000 TPA ferrochrome plant by Tata Steel, the unit has an annual production capacity of 60 million kgs.
The new unit will be operated by Amalgamated Plantations, an associate company and a leading contract packer for TCPL’s FMCG tea business. It currently operates three tea packing factories - two in Assam and one in West Bengal.
"Trial production has already commenced at the unit," said a company statement.
