New Delhi-based Any Graphics and Hyderabad-based Pragati Pack were judged as the joint winners of the Award.

Any Graphics produced the Aloe Vera labels for Mirambika; Leaf label for Prime Houseware; Jordan label for Jordon Label; and the Senate label for Tilak Nagar Industries.Every label has a unique combination of effects which enhances the aesthetic appeal of the product.

The Aloe Vera labels for Mirambika were printed on a clear PVC film using a six-colour flexo press with inline coater, fully loaded, interdeck UV and letterpress unit followed by roll-to-roll screen printing for applying the specially designed coating to increase the gloss. The special feature of the label is the customised effect on cactus which gives the real feel of the plant. According to Any Graphics, the exquisite look of the label is created using software which cannot be disclosed. Individual grains of the cactus can be felt, making the label look richer and stand out from the crowd.

The leaf label was produced for Prime Houseware. “The leaf-shaped label is an outstanding printed product giving a feel of real leaf. The droplets on the leaf can be distinguished and appear realistic,” said Any Graphics.

Printed on BOPP film, the label uses a combination of effects achieved through high gloss UV printed with screen, matt texture on some portion of leaf, and specially designed coating to give realistic feel of leaf.

The pre-press activity was accomplished through Esko workflow using Merge/Expose software and blocks were made of Esko 2120 CTP.

The  50,000 labels were printed on six-colour flexo press with inline coater, fully loaded, interdeck UV, and letterpress printing machine followed by roll-on-roll UV screen printing. The shape of leaf was die-cut on a letterpress die-cutting machine.

The special features on Jordon label came in for special praise. The “natural feel” of the flower on the label was evident, according to the judges. Any Graphics says, the individual grains of petals and drops have been treated and distinguished separately. Nothing is embossed on this label; the chrome effect, halftone and the embossing features are all done using screen printing process. The effect is customised as per the artwork so as to impart life to the product shown on the label.

20,000 labels were accomplished with positives and different screen meshes as this job is completely a screen printed job. These were printed on a 250 micron polycarbonate film using a Keywell screen printing machine with online UV curing system. Zund automatic cutting plotter with eye-cut camera was used for cutting the labels accurately to the shape.

The attractive labels used a varied colour combination which includes chrome, special pink, white along with CMYK and varnish.

1, 00,000 Senate labels were produced for Tilaknagar industries. “The amazing feature of this label is that the depth and richness of colour on this label can be seen from both sides,” said Any Graphics.

The logo ‘S’, specially designed using Adobe software, is visible from the reverse side when pasted on a clear water bottle.  The label is printed on reverse side with black on metallised polyester film with clear liner. The pre-press activity was accomplished through Esko workflow using Merge/Expose software and blocks were made of Esko 2120 CTP.

According to Any Graphics, achieving gold effect on both sides of the label is a remarkable achievement as it is technically not possible using hot foil stamping.

In this category, Pragati Pack submitted its Nupal Remedies’ Kamilari Liver Supplement label, Haldiram’s Red Chilli Pickle label, Manson’s Extracts’ Indulekha Coconut Milk Shampoo label and Krishna Chigurupati’s Krsma Estates – Cabernet Sauvignon label.

All the labels were produced on the eight-colour full UV MPS EC 330 press using Dupont plates outputted on Esko CDI HD Flexo platesetter.

Kamilari Liver Supplement label is printed on a PP white substrate with spot holography on the background and raised UV on the branding area. The judges liked this combination of holography and raised UV, which one of the judges said, “really lifts the label”. According to Pragati Pack, the company used spot holographic effect on the background as a part of anti-counterfeiting and an embossed UV process on the branding with texture and gloss effect to achieve the enhanced appeal.

Pragati produced 20,000 labels for Haldiram’s Red Chilli Pickle. According to Pragati, the picture of the chillies is reproduced quite well and it is tough to say that this is flexographic pringing. Printed on PP label stock, the label uses CMYK along with special red in the artwork.

The Indulekha labels are printed on metallised paper substrate with special green, opaque white along with CMYK. The metallic base gives attractive sheen to the entire label. The branding areas and the image are enhanced using embossed UV. 3, 00,000 such labels were printed for Moson’s Extracts.

The Krsma label uses a unique combination of light grey, dark grey, red and gold cold foil. 10,000 labels were printed on white PP stock for Krishna Chigurupati. The texture effect and custom shape for die-cutting added a layer of complexity to the design. Pragati Pack said, “The very Indian design with the combination of intricate gold foiling along with texture and gloss effect gives a great result.”
