Technicon launches inserter for newspaper supplements

Mumbai-based Technicon India, the manufacturer of mailroom automation equipment, launched an inserter machine at PrintPack India 2015. According to Rajiv Gandotra of Technicon India, this is the first time such kind of a machine has been developed by an Indian manufacturer. “We received very good responses for the visitors at the exhibition. There is a market for such kind of automated machines. There is a demand, but customers are not ready to pay the cost of the machine supplied by an overseas manufacturer. So, we expect a good demand for our machine,” Gandotra added.

Perfection, accuracy and insertion of supplements manually are the three major pain points in a newspaper production house. “With the machine, we are trying to remove all this. The machine is equipped with sensors which do not allow more than a single copy of supplement,” he added.

Gandotra said Technicon received most enquires from the Gulf countries and South Africa, and also from countries where labour is expensive, like Italy.

“We manufacture equipment for mailroom system which comes at half the price than an overseas manufacturer. We found that the market is ready to buy more machines, but at a higher cost. Localisation and more editions is good news for us,” he added.

SK Singh of Jagran Prakashan, a customer of Technicon, was impressed with the inserter machine. He said it is a futuristic equipment.
