Thomson Press takes possession of India’s first Xeikon 9600
New Delhi-based Thomson Press, a printing and publishing house, has become the first in India to invest in a Xeikon 9600. The new press has been installed at its digital facility in Okhla, New Delhi, in a bid to meet its clients' demand for shorter run books and other publication.

Bent Serritslev, managing director at Xeikon APAC, said, "We are thrilled and honoured to count Thomson Press among our satisfied customers. We are confident that the versatility and high printing quality of the 9000 series of presses will find acceptance in the Indian market, where quality is critical. And the flexibility to choose roll-to-roll or roll-to-sheet adds an extra dimension, while the flexibility of financial models Xeikon adds to the attractiveness of the offering.”
The Xeikon 9600’s roll-to-stack incorporates a web finishing module to “protect” the printed image prior to mechanical finishing of the work. “The press is capable of producing multi-colour jobs cost-effectively in quantities as low as twenty books,” said Serritslev.
The press is capable of handling media weights from 40 to 350 gsm, which will enable printing of coffee-table books, educational materials as well as religious publications on lower gsm paper.
The one-pass-duplex web-fed system is capable of speeds of up to 14.5mpm (47.5 fpm) at a resolution of 1200 dpi with variable dot density. “It integrates the variable data capabilities of the Xeikon X-800 front-end and incorporates a fifth colour station for accurate spot colour reproduction as well as speciality toners for security applications and other technical toners. Its QA-CD dry toner enables the use of a wide range of substrates without specific pre-treatment,” said Serritslev.
