Tin packaging in India sees a comeback
Sanjay Bhatia, the managing director of Hindustan Tin Works spoke at the Indian Institute of Packaging Conference during the national conference on 17 January 2014 in Delhi. He said, the Indian metal packaging has seen a "big comeback".

Hindustan Tin Works is among the largest player in the tin packaging sector along with Kaira Can, Shetron, Can Pac and Zenith.
Bhatia spoke about the joint venture agreement with Rexam Beverage Can (India Holdings) Limited in 2006. Rexam is a UK based firm, and a market leader in two piece beverage cans.
During 2012-13, the JV had built a new high speed aluminum beverage can manufacturing line with capacity of 850 million cans p.a. and involving capital outlay of approx. Rs 200 crores at its current site in Taloja. This new line had started commercial production September 2012.
The current market capitalisation of Hindustan Tin Works stands at Rs 34.79 crore.The company has reported a standalone sales of Rs 79.49 crore and a Net Profit of Rs 1.69 crore for the quarter ended September 2013.
Bhatia spoke about the Canvironment Week which was celebrated by the global metal can industry in 11 countries from five different continents. Leveraging on the eco-friendly nature of cans and to mark its 200th birthday, Hindustan Tin Works Ltd, campaigned with cans being the key focus. The campaign promoted the sustainability of metal cans.
Bhatia said, "Cans connect with industry, community and the youth. Promoting the sustainability and environmentally-friendly performance of metal packaging is becoming increasingly important to the can making industry. Through Canvironment we are aiming to achieve this goal while simultaneously helping India’s rag pickers to live a better life, and raising awareness of the importance of recycling.”
Bhatia showcased a range of tin cans with multiple usage and functionality. He concluded his presentation when he said, "Eat what you can; but can what you can’t."
