TOPA conference highlights sustainable printing

The Telangana Offset Printers Association (TOPA) recently organised an international conference on sustainable printing and packaging. The highlight of the conference was the interactive plenary session involving a host of experts from users, producers and material segments.

Harsha Paruchri of Pragati group shared some of his experiences bringing in the revolutionary changes in the field of printing with new generation ideas and his challenges in implementing them. He elaborated on the quality measures and inventory management systems.

SN Venkatraman of ITC-PSPD spoke on the current challenges in manufacturing paper boards with the huge disruptions in the supply chain. He deliberated on the quality parameters that can help in choosing the right material for a package.

Amrish Choudhury of Mars India shared the significance of logistics in the pandemic and post-pandemic times. He said designing packaging for optimal transportation is a key in today's business.

Pawankumar Chougule of Dr Reddys explained with a case study how the collaborative efforts among all the stake-holders, such as converters, IT and machine suppliers have solved issues in packing lines, thereby achieving higher productivity.

Chandiprasad Ravipati of Aurobindo Laboratories praised the extraordinary services of the printers and packaging converters during the lockdown. He said because of the printers’ efforts, the supply of essential goods and life-saving medicines were not disrupted. He recommended frequent interaction between the user industry and packaging converters in a healthy environment. He called for an optimisation in choosing the packaging material for every product by judicious deliberation.

Chakravarthi AVPS, global ambassador World Packaging Organisation, chaired the plenary session and highlighted the importance of print packaging converters in the current scenario. “One has to innovate in what he is currently doing. Sustained interaction with stakeholders, accessing the latest developments in process and equipment lead to continuous improvement,” he said. “Balancing user requirements and compliance regulations while designing a pharmaceutical packaging is always a challenge.”

More than 150 representatives of the print packaging industry from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, including CEOs, attended this conclave and actively participated in the plenary session emphasising on the current challenges they face.

C Ravinder Reddy, president of TOPA and general secretary of AIFMP, S Dayaker Reddy, former president of IPAMA, the pillars behind the event, expressed their satisfaction seeing the overwhelming response.
