In recent years, ensuring food safety and hygiene has become a priority topic as the food package printing industry becomes increasingly aware of environmental health and food safety issues, shifting away from conventional toluene-based gravure inks to toluene-free products.

BS Kampani, president and managing director, Toyo Ink India, said, “These new products are basically improving on the existing norms being regulated by respective countries in Europe,USA and South East Asia in terms of environment and food packaging. The latest launches being made in Japan, the Aliphatic-based gravure Inks would be made available in India as these are based on special pigments more friendly to food packaging and high performance packaging material meant for ready-to-eat food requiring retort or boiling properties.

These systems are very new to India and Toyo Ink India has been promoting these products in the Indian market for food packaging. We expect the food packaging market both in terms of ready to eat foods and juices to grow by 40%,thereby arresting the wastage of our farm /agricultural produce, which under normal circumstances had been rotting.”

“The government of India and the Indian Institute of Packaging has also been supporting this cause for the last five years relentlessly. Same is the case with the adhesives; both solvent-based and solvent-less adhesives launched by the company have excellent product resistance properties, thereby, increasing the robustness of the laminates, which further help better preservation of the package product in terms of freshness and product shelf life,” Kampani further added.

Responding to customers’ appeal for improvements in the usability of environmentally conscious products, the Toyo Ink Group newly developed the Lioalpha line of toluene-free and MEK-free lamination inks, solvent-free laminating adhesives and dry laminating adhesives that expand application capacity.

Through a combination of these new products, package converters can now achieve greater production efficiency and work productivity resulting from reduced materials loss, downtime and environmental burden.

The new launch including products – Lioalpha a series of multi-purpose high-functional lamination gravure inks and it will be having features like superior printability due to substantial improvements in fogging, cell plugging and other issues; excellent halftone reproducibility, trapping, leveling and other printing effects. The Lioalpha SW series is compatible with European regulations (Swiss Ordinance)

Tomoflex TM-570 ester-type multi-purpose laminating adhesive and including features proper use of three varieties of cross linking agents (aliphatic, FDA aliphatic and aromatic) facilitates expansion of various applications.
