Dhruv Shetty of Uday Multiprint said, “We wanted a folder-gluer that could handle all types of jobs, straight line, lock-bottom, fluted cartons and also complex designs. The DGM team understood our requirements and suggested the Smartfold 800PC.”
The company also got a carton ejector retrofit on this machine, which, paired with an online scanner, helps discard faulty cartons at high speed and avoid carton mix-ups.
Previously, the company was using two India-made folder-gluers, one straight line and the other lock-bottom.
Along with the DGM folder-gluer, the company has also installed its second Maxima 25x35-inches die-cutter.
Uday Multiprint was started by Sudhakar Shetty in 1980 at Andheri East, Mumbai with a single-colour offset machine and manual die-cutter in an 800-sqft space producing catch covers and cartons for pharma and stationery companies.
“Today, our plant is located at Vasai with 20,000-sq ft area with all the necessary infrastructure to produce mono cartons, blister cards, fluted cartons, display cartons and others. We cater to the pharma, healthcare, stationery, FMCG, cosmetics and electronics industries,” Shetty said.
The facility is equipped with six-colour, two-colour offset presses; online and offline coaters; a slew of automatic die-cutters and folder-gluers.
Shetty said, “In the past 10 years, we have invested a lot in technology. Our mindset has always been to look at it as a challenge rather than a hurdle. The DGM folder-gluer came with more than 50 additional attachments for different carton designs, which took us some time to figure out. However, the DGM team has always been available to support. Within three months after the installation, we are using the machine to its full capacity.”
He added, “We underestimated the speed of the machine. For straight-line cartons, the speed is almost two-three times faster compared to our older machines. For lock-bottom, the speed is almost four times compared to our older machines. So, our pasting capacity has tremendously increased. Thus, the machine has cut down on delivery lead time. Also, a lot of jobs which we did pasting manually are now done on the DGM. This has helped cut down lead-time and cost.”
Shetty said the company is expecting a minimum 40% growth after these investments. “These investments have helped us increase productivity and automate manual operations, so ROIs will follow,” he concluded.
