Kuthari said, "the scenario for last more than one year has been as follows, GDP low below 6%; the manufacturing index is down by 2-3%; the trade in balance foreign exchange; exports much lower and a huge general elections around the corner."
Kuthari felt Chidambaram and the UPA government has no alternative but to make a budget boost support to the manufacturing process and arrest downfall in GDP, manufacturing, etc. He was confident that the slowdown in the manufacturing sector will bounce back; and normalcy will be return to the country.
Kuthari said the road-map for the print industry should include:
1. Cut down imports
2. Making import costlier for consumable products
3. Capital goods imports will be encouraged to increase manufacturing
4. Encourage bulk import - which will mean the unit retail packed products will be imported in bulk - packaging will be done in the country. This will provide approximately Rs 60,000 million workload to the print and allied industry
5. Additional incentive to boost print exports
Kuthari felt that "if only the unit retail packed product is discouraged for imports, the load will cover the capacity of the print industry." He felt the paperboard industry will be a major gainer.

He concluded, "One more area of great concern to the SSI units is the service tax issue. I am quite hopeful the Finance Minister will definitely look into this area and address the grievances of SSI units. The major beneficiary will be the print industry which has a huge segment in the SSI sector."
