The DFS consists of software, a platesetter, a Kongsberg cutting table, and a digital mounter. “We are going to target the corrugated as well as the label customers. The USP of the DFS is the significant cost saving that the process will accrue. We are looking at a 25% to 30% savings on plate costs,” said Jaichandra, the managing director at Veepee.
Explaining the process for corrugation platemaking, Jaichandra said, “Currently, the corrugators are paying for lots of unused space on large plates. What the DFS will do is cut out pieces that can be later repositioned on a mylar sheet of the plate size to run the print job. It like a jig-saw puzzle, but has the potential to cut waste and boost profits.”
Jaichandra and his wife Nalani Madhushani, who is a director of the company, were at Labelexpo India 2016 on the third day.
For the present, Veepee will begin by providing the cut pieces of plates and will add the mylar sheet services, which will need a mounting module, at a later date.
Another advantage Veepee will look to generate out of DFS is its ability to produce staggered cut for label plates and bevel cut for corrugation plates. “Normally the plates are cut straight creating a cut line. This causes bumps and vibration on the press, forcing the operator to run the press at a manageable speed. The DFS creates a staggered layer cut which can be interlocked, eliminating bumps and vibrations. This helps the operator to run the press at high-speeds,” said Jaichandra.
He added, “The bevel cut feature cuts at a 45-degree angle, and is mainly for corrugated purposes. Now our customers can get rid of the unwanted line on the boxes caused by the ink on the edges which is sometimes not transferred on the box. Bevel cut plates release all the ink on the boxes, delivering crisp finished print on the boxes.
