Viraj Prints invests in Komori Lithrone S29

Mumbai-based Viraj Prints has commissioned a new four-colour Komori Lithrone S29 printing press. The press is equipped with an online coater, extended delivery and HUV curing. The machine was supplied by Insight Communications.

Viraj Shah, director, Viraj Prints said, “The configuration was opted considering space constraints and around 80% of our jobs require coating. Also, the press is capable of doing conventional printing along with UV, and allows us to provide an overcoat and give extra protection when printing on plastics.”

“It is an economical printing press equipped with features like simple operating system, less energy consumption, single lamp UV curing system, immediate drying of the inks that enables shorter turnaround times, and minimal ozone emission that contributes to environmental protection, when printing A4 size work,” he added.

Viraj Prints was incorporated by Asvin Shah as a letterpress shop in 1982. In its early years of operations most of the clients came from financial institutions and banks but since it started offset printing fabrication jobs from advertising industry and Bollywood too have made their way into its portfolio.

Later, Viraj Prints evolved further included specialised rigid board packaging and point of purchase materials such as floor standing units (FSUs), countertops and display units. Its constant focus on innovation has led to the development of a patented reusable package for CDs and DVDs known as the Viji Pack, which the company calls ‘the ultimate solution for the music and video industries’.

To develop a concrete expansion plan, Shah recently sent both his sons Saurin and Viral Shah to the IGAS 2011 printing exhibition in Tokyo. The idea was to get them survey various options available in the market and to familiarise them with the technology changes,” Shah added.

3D lenticular printing is a major field for Viraj Prints, which the company recommends ‘for enhancing the beauty and effect of advertisements, interiors and photographs since lenticular printing brings pictures closest to the look of the original objects, making them more attractive and visually appealing in terms of colour, sharpness and depth. The company can also offer specialised printing on non-absorbent materials as well as advanced structural packaging and 3D lenticular printing.
