Komal Wadhwa, director of Wadpack said, “New product development in secondary packaging is done by our in-house design team. The team will use the Esko’s software to develop these products and finish them on the Kongsberg XN24 sample making table.”
Wadpack’s plant is set up over a five-acre plot in Doddaballapur near Bengaluru. The company was in the news last year when it invested in a seven-ply machine.
“With seven-ply, the idea was to replace expensive plywood used in packaging with cheaper corrugated boards/boxes. Corrugated boxes are one-fifth the weight of plywood boxes and there is cost advantage the customer. From customers’ point of view, there is freight saving as well. The applications include packaging of electronics, motors, automobile spare parts and pallets among others,” said Sandeep Wadhwa, managing director, Wadpack, while speaking to PrintWeek India.
The investment in Esko will enhance these applications. Wadpack can now produce special corrugated or foam profile packing components and customised boxes. “These components will provide anti-shock insulation for the shipment of high-value goods,” said Komal.
Wadpack is one of the few plants in the world, which offer 11 profiles of corrugated boxes. Apart from the creation of prototypes and samples, the corrugator is planning to design and manufacture special profile cuts for POP and display markets with a combination of materials and substrates, including corrugated and honeycomb board, and acrylics.
Shrihari Rao of Esko India said, “The use of Esko’s software in combination with the robust Kongsberg XN24 cutting table with its special heads allows Wadpack to create some unique packaging solutions for its customers who need to ship complex high-value components or products without fear of damage and cost overruns.”
