The top Indian manufacturer discuss everything from the height at which a newspaper should be read; and whether the ideal cut-off should be 546mm or 533mm.
On market: Design being our key strength, Naph Graphics has successfully launched many products step by step to provide maximum benefits to its users. New business ideas and technology played a vital role in the success of Naph Graphics. Around 15 to 20% of our revenue is obtained from export markets. Although all these factors like number of installation, revenue, profit, turnover and size are important constraints to measure the expansion year by year but at the same time consistency in quality, delivery, services and technological advancements are key factors in our expansion.
On choosing the right machine: Although printing quality is affected by the quality of ink, paper and pre-press utilised at the shopfloor but design and features of the machine plays a vital role in efficient and quality production. Naph machines provide an ease to the operator to get the best output. This is achieved through design parameters like operator side RCR’s and side movements individually on each plate cylinder, reduced web length, staggered cylinder placement, three cylinder heavy duty folder, high capacity ink duct, bearer to bearer cylinders, integrated reel stand, etc. Also the machines are designed taking space saving, wastage reduction, quantitative production output and efficient operations into consideration.
Passing the cost: We try our best to maintain the cost of the components by incorporating latest engineering technique. If it still goes beyond, then we pass a bare minimum share of the increased price to the customer.
Digital media: Although it is un-debatable that electronic media and other sources have impacted the newspaper industry considerably, in India the scope of newspaper industry is still nourishing. There are numerous factors which allow sustainability of print media in terms of its psychological impact, value addition in the content and detailed analysis of the news, its reach and acceptance.
On the myth of cheap labour: As far as our industry is concerned, it is a big challenge to gain good labour at reasonable costs as well as to sustain skilled labour. Procurring cheap labour has not been an easy preposition.
On ideal cut-off: The major raw material cost for producing newspaper is paper cost which has shown a considerable rise. Although changing the cut off size is not an easy task for newspapers as it requires changing the complete machinery as well as the advertisement structure. But still, with the increasing cost of newsprint, the industry is bound to take steps in this regard. With time and new developments like narrow gap blanket cylinders, it has become technically possible for the newspapers to get similar printing area with reduced cut-off size.
On hyper-local editions: Local and hyper-local editions make it necessary to set up a new press or unit. It obviously increases the demand ultimately favouring the manufacturing industry. This also improves the utility of medium speed machinery.
