The Kerala-based manufacturer with four factories in South India has surged ahead as a key player from Asia intent on promoting PUR bookbinding technology to the world. The firm has an impressive roster of installations in UAE. This includes a 12 clamp binder with PUR in the Al Ghurair printing press in Dubai and the PUReBIND Ultra CF single clamp-binders at Delta Printing Press in Dubai and Imprint Printing Press in Sharjah, With these installations, Welbound has announced their PUR presence in the UAE.

Back in India, Welbound has a tally of 30 plus single-clamp PUR binders of varying configurations, plus installations of 12-clamp binders. These include award winning printers like Replika Press, Jak Printers and Avantika Printers. Welbound also helped the leading book printers like Pragati Offset, Replika Press, Parksons Graphics, to convert their conventional bookbinding lines to PUR binders. Henkel Adhesives technologies India, the subsidiary of the leading German manufacturer of bookbinding adhesives, has partnered Welbound in boosting PUR adoption in India.

The single and multi clamp binders offered by Welbound have the option of both open tank and slot die applicators. The side-glue used is a special PSHMA that provides immediate anchoring of the covers. The machines set automatically from the control panel and adjustments can be made on the fly.

Welbound will be displaying the WB PUReBIND Ultra CF at Printpack Arabia in Sharjah. This kit has auto-clamping, combination milling, twin melt tanks, slot die applicator, automatic cover feeder and stack delivery. According to V S Sudheeran, the country head for Welbound Worldwide FZC, "The market in GCC countries will see an adoption of PUR technology at a fast pace. The PUReBIND range of single-clamp binders and the multi-clamp binders with both roller and slot die applicators are ideally positioned to address this market requirement."

K C Sanjeev, the chairman and managing director of Welbound Worldwide said, “PUR as a technology requires extensive training and application support and with two of our application specialists on PUR stationed in Sharjah, Welbound is ready to take the role of a technology partner".

PUR requirement is evident in countries like India and those in the regions of Middle East Asia and Africa, due to the high temperatures that have led to the failure of EVA adhesive-bound books.
