The Book Printer of the Year 2013 honours are shared by Jak Printers and Prodon Enterprise. 

Both the winners displayed the highest quality of printing married to precision in binding, in order to produce an enhanced reading experience for the readers.

Prodon Enterprise’s entries which include Rolls Royce 17 EX, Husain – Works from the collection of the Late Badrivishal Pitti, 94 East Church and Kashmir Shawls were printed on a Mitsubishi Diamond 1000 LS.

All of the pre-press was outsourced. Prodon Enterprise showcased its versatility when it comes to the use of substrates. All of their samples were printed on different substrates, with multiple substrates being used in a single job. Inner page online satin coating was a highlight of all their samples. While the printing of the images in Roll Royce book is in harmony with that of the car, an icon of luxury, the 94 East Church’s creasing was designed and done using step format so that the pages can be easily turned.

Jak Printers have now won the Book Printer of the Year award for the fifth year in a row. Between Bombay and Mumbai, Dome over India, India’s 100 Best Destinations and Light and Shade in Life’s Glade were the four entries submitted by Jak Printers.

Printing a run-length of 300 to 4,000 copies of the above works, Jak produced the books on a Heidelberg Speedmaster 102S, a 28x40inch six-colour press, plates for which were fired on a Heidelberg Suprasetter platesetter. Proofing was done using the Epson Stylus Pro 9880 with EFI XF RIP while Heidelberg’s Prinect connected the entire workflow.

A wide range of post-press processes were used to provide unmatched aesthetic appeal. Velvet lamination, thermal matt lamination, hot foil stamping, embossing and block fitting (manual) were some of the technologies used in the production of these submissions.

Established in 1984 in a lovely building in Byculla (Mumbai), Jak has over a period of time established a solid reputation for its uncompromising stand on quality.
