Xeikon announced that one year after the market launch, the CX3 digital label press, based on Xeikon’s Cheetah technology, will get a formal launch. The CX3 will be available for order taking.
The Cheetah had been in pilot operation at five sites around the world, and the one on the stand, the sixth, was picked up by UK’s CS Label on the first day of the show.
With its top speed of 30 m/min (98 ft/min), the Xeikon CX3 is the most productive five-colour digital label press in its class. It is, in effect, a class of its own.
Wim Maes, CEO of Xeikon said, “Heading to Labelexpo Europe for the formal launch of the Xeikon CX3, we reachout to our pilot customers for an update on their experience with the press and the difference it is making to their business. We were, quite honestly, overwhelmed by the impact this press is having and the positive reinforcement we are getting from our pilot sites.”
The five-colour 330mm or 13-inch digital label press runs at a top speed of 30 m/min. Filip Weymans, director for segment marketing of labels and packaging at Xeikon, said, “The Xeikon CX3 is the most productive digital label press in its class and offers all the other benefits that make Xeikon label presses unique. These benefits include full rotary printing, a print resolution of true 1200x3600 dpi, toners that meet FDA regulations for food contact, and one pass opaque white toner.”
Xeikon also announced its Fusion technology, a new concept of fully automated, unattended label and packaging production from customer order to delivery, which is set to take on the combination presses and the hybrid presses.
The Fusion technology, Weymans claimed, will combine full colour production printing with digital embellishment of labels and packaging in a single, one-pass and fully digital production process. “The fusion will consist of a series of embellishment modules, which are not just put inline with the press but are components of an entirely new modular system with the in-house developed X-800 digital front-end taking care of prepress, data processing, colour management and press operation, as well as full control and operation of all embellishment modules without manual intervention.”
The modules include hot/cold foiling; screen prints; matte, gloss and structured flood and spot varnish and a digital braille module. The first module will be launched in the course of next year.
