Xerox has showcased a new roll-to-cut-sheet press, informed Xerox’s regional manager for business development for north, east and west India Priyatosh Kumar, during a presentation at the Mumbai Mudrak Sangh’s Printer’s Day event held on 3 March 2015 in Mumbai.
The Xerox Rialto 900 is an inkjet press, built as a collaborative effort between Xerox and Impika. Xerox acquired Impika in early 2013.
Kumar said, “It’s an inkjet offering, the speed offered is in between the fastest cut-sheet toner machine and slowest web machine.”
This press has a new small footprint (3580 mm x 1550 mm x 1600 mm). “It should break the entry barriers for high volumes along with competitive prices. It is ideal for those who are looking forward to move from offset or digital ink/toner to production inkjet,” added Kumar.
The machine was unveiled at Hunkeler Innovation Days. According to the manufacturer, the device is the world’s only fully integrated roll-to-cut sheet, narrow-web inkjet press. It has been designed for printers producing 1.5m to 5m impressions per month.
The standard configuration includes an unwinder, web cleaner, slitter/cutter with four side trimming, a top tray and a high-capacity stacker. If need be, the press can exceed that length by the addition of a high-capacity stacker.
The Rialto 900 is a single-pass duplex, tight web press, which runs at up to 157 feet per minute (48 m/m), which translates into 171 one up letter-size sheets (160 A4) duplex per minute. The printing width is 8.66” (220mm), with a web width of up to 9.84” (250mm). It supports paper weights from 60 to 160 gsm, on a web roll of up to 3.28 ft (100cm) in diameter.
Other features include 1,000dpi perceived resolution for high-quality output and missing jet detection and duplex matching that are integrated and automated.
It also features media flexibility with Xerox’s water-based pigment HD ink, an integrated cutter-stacker, a large touchscreen display and a choice of a PDF or IPDS digital front-end.
When enquired about the price in India, Kumar said that the price is yet to be announced for Indian market and will be available with the company’s Indian representatives within a week’s time.
