Surender Baniwal of Impact Promotions in Delhi says LED UV offers distinctive advantages over conventional UV process by being eco-friendly, which according to him, is the need of the day
Describe your company?
Impact Promotions came into existence in 2008 when a soldier decided to splash into printing business. Today, Impact has infrastructure consisting of many firsts in India. First was two Konica 12-head machines and now the first LED UV curing machine in India. In addition, Mutoh Valuejet boosts the vinyl printing capability. Impact also does high quality screen printing jobs.
When did you install the machine and what kind of application do you print on the press?
Ryobi 925D was displayed at Printpack 2015 and was installed towards the end of February 2015. We can do special substrate which are generally not possible on any other UV press.
What are your reasons to invest in this technology? How are you benefiting with LED?
LED UV offers distinctive advantages over conventional UV process by being eco-friendly (no ozone), virtually no heat generation and very low power consumption. These factors influenced my decision to invest in this technology.
Did you look at any other similar machines? Which are they?
No. We were looking for a used press but after meeting the Provin team and visiting USA for a live LED demo, we decided on a Ryobi press.
Why did you choose this particular machine?
We were impressed with Provin’s pre- and after-sales support and technical guidance.
What tilted the scale in this press’ favour?
LED UV technology and the compact size of the machine. Plus the printing press is equipped with many innovative features and we found it to be a value for money machine.
How much have these features helped you in print work?
We are printing on various substrates which we were not able to do earlier. The innovative productivity enhancement features produces very low wastage.
Having used the machine for few months now, is there anything that you wish it had that it doesn’t?
A Ryobi 925 with inline coater and LED UV could have been a dream configuration.
What’s the rated speed of the machine? Do you use it at that speed? Has speed helped you do more jobs?
The rated speed of the machine is 16,200 impressions an hour. We run the machine at a speed of 9000 to 15,000 impressions an hour depending on the job quality and substrate.
If there’s a critical print job that has come your way, would you rely on this press to see it through?
We have done most of the jobs on difficult to print substrates when demanded by our customers.
Do you think it allows you the flexibility to do urgent jobs on the fly?
Yes. Features like semi-automatic plate changer, program controlled presets, blanket wash system, smart program inking and vision punch are very helpful in a quick job changeover.
How easy is it to use?
This machine is ergonomically designed for ease of operation with minimum wastage of paper.
How much time or money has it saved?
We believe time is money. All the automation saves a lot of time. The sixth or seventh sheet is sellable.
Has it won you any new work?
Yes it has. Because of our ability to do print jobs on special substrates, we have been in demand, which in turn has added new work to our business.
Would you say that it offers value for money? Please explain how?
This is a value for money press. Compared to the products available in this category, this machine offers the best package, commercially and technically. On top of all these, LED technology gives us the edge over our competitors.
Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
As it was the first LED UV press in India, we faced few issues with the ink. But that’s acceptable. It has been a learning curve.
Under what circumstances would you buy another?
We are planning for another Ryobi machine of the same size with coater configuration for normal aqueous coating jobs.
