Unveiling a brand new avatar at Pamex 2013, Delhi-based Joy-D-Zign’s multi-head pinning machine add features for additional folding, squaring and cutting Words: Rahul Kumar
Joy’s multi-head pinning machine was launched in September 2011. Subsequent blueprint saw the machine fit with additional folding and squaring unit. At Pamex 2013, Joy further upped the ante by adding the cutting unit to the machine.
Narinder Singh Manku, managing director, Joy-D-Zign, says, “The equipment is best suited for all segments of exercise notebook convertors. The customer has the flexibility of choosing a combination or a complete line. It also gives the flexibility of adding subsequent modules at a later period depending on the customer’s requirements of space and investment.”
“The machine is unique as each unit can be operated separately and various modules are integrated through automation," adds Manku.
The machine requires a far lesser footprint compared to similar machines available in the market. Manku stresses that a lot of detailing went into designing to ensure ease in feeding raw notebook in the machine. “There are several alternatives in the market but most of them fall short on delivering quality output.
Chinese or local made variants machines gained popularity some years ago and others were semi-online options which failed to process double duplex titles. At the design stage, all competing equipment were thoroughly studied to design a machine which could eliminate shortcomings on the other available equipment.
It is a very energy efficient machine. The quality of back squaring is as good as any offline squaring machine, and can easily and effectively deliver 30–35 cycles per minute on actual production environments,” he claims.
On the pre- and after-sales service, Manku says, “An extensive training schedule is organised prior to and after the installation wherein the operator and the maintenance team are trained on site as well as at our plant to ensure effective man machine compatibility,” he adds.
The post-press equipment manufacturing company has installed around 30 exercise book manufacturing machines in the country and exported few machines. Sundram at Palghar, Shree Venkatesh Industries at New Delhi, Pixel to Print at Madurai, Millennium Paper Products at Vijayawada and Cirrus Graphics at Noida are few customers who have been using the kit.
“The availability of imported machines at exorbitant prices was one of the major motivating factors to develop offline, inexpensive, low on power requirement and compact machines for book-binding and finishing segment of graphic arts industry.
The focus was to build a machine that can be easily operated, even by semi-skilled workforce. The first of such machine saw the light in 1995 under the company name D-Zign Engineers, a partnership venture of Manku and Kanwal Jit Singh.
“First we introduced a signature bundling press, then a nipping press in 1996. The response to these two machines was so overwhelming that our vision for the company changed drastically leading us to acquire infrastructure befitting the vision. Later, we set up a private limited company under the name Joy-D-Zign Engineers,” says Manku.
We are receiving good response not only from domestic market but also from overseas including Nepal, Russia, Sudan, Sri Lanka , USA, Bangkok, Bhutan, Canada, Dubai, Italy, Kenya and other East and South African countries, etc. Till now, around three thousand machines have been installed in India and abroad.
Joy has designing and engineering team with rich experience of more than 80 individuals. Manku, who is a pre-press specialist, has also been associated with well-known type-setting company Monotype for over two decades. “Our experienced team of engineers continue to overcome the challenges they face to progressively improve and develop machines to the best possible standards using indigenous inputs.”
The company's experience and knowledge of book-binding acquired in the past two decades is reflected in the competence, quality standards and dedication in search of new solutions.
The present list of equipment produced by the company includes bundling press; book spine pre-gluer; nipping press, smashing and nipping press; book back rounding and backing press; booklet three knife trimmer; edge squaring press; twin/dual book press; joint forming press; twin corner cutting press and vertical baling press.
With regards to future plans, Manku informs, "The company would be manufacturing a range of paper counting machines in collaboration with a well known Italian brand."
