What does the machine do?
The machine is ideal for making mock ups and samples and anything that requires die-cutting and structural fabrication. It cuts and creases various substrates. The XE tables has high operational speed and is easy to operate.

Did you look at any other similar machines?
Yes. Chinese machines which served a similar purpose. We choose XE 10 as it is assisted by a rack-and-pinion X/Y drive with precise motion control, a fast servo system and a complete tool set.

Why did you make the purchase?
It saves us time making dummies before production. It is very accurate to the mm. But more importantly it allows us to innovate structurally.

What features do you particularly like?
Its simple – you can design and cut.

Is there anything that you dislike?
The tools are delicate. We wish they were more robust.

Is there anything that you wish it had that it doesn’t?
We would have loved if it could do laser cutting as well! Also it would have helped if the creasing tools were available in an option of thicknesses. Some boards tend to crack on the crease.

How fast is it?
It’s not a production machine – hence the speed isn’t something that is really measured or checked. But we are able to cut about 50 samples in an hour. This includes producing complex die-cutting.

What’s the quality like?
Good. The main thing is, it does some things well and some things not so well, but on the whole it serves the purpose.

How reliable is it?
The machine is quite reliable.

How easy is it to use?
There is a learning curve in understanding the different tools, substrates and functionalities available. But once you understand them it is convenient and user friendly.

How much time or money has it saved?
You get an accurate dummy (precise to the mm). And the best part is, that something which took several hours now takes a few minutes.

Has it won you any new work?
It has been useful for us because we are looking to innovate our products at very step.

Would you say that it offers value for money?
If a printer is able to make optimum use of the machine, it is an invaluable asset.

Where there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
Procuring cutting blades is tedious as they have to be imported from Europe.

Who do you think the machine is right for?
Digital printers, packaging companies and commercial printers who are involved with structural fabrication.

Conclusion
User’s verdict
Speed 4/5
Quality 4/5
Reliability 4/5
Value for money 5/5
