What does the system do?
It is capable of printing on all types of paper from 40gsm to 250gsm. It can achieve repeat sizes from 16 to 28in by changing the offset printing cassettes. The maximum paper width is 20in whilst the maximum printing width is 19in. This includes delivery in sheet, roll or folded continuous forms. The unique feature of this machine is that it has a reinsertion system. This means that when you pass the paper roll for the second time through the machine, it prints on all the offset units in perfect register with the print which was produced in the first pass. This ensures additional colours in the printed job.

Why did you choose this particular system?
We chose this machine to print multicolour printing work for mailers, bar coded courier consignment notes, bank account statements and transactional printing work.

Did you look at any other similar systems?
We had looked at other machines like Muller Martini, but the Rotatek was the most cost effective

Why did you make the purchase?
We wanted to expand into the area of multicolour printing work in A4 size sheets, roll and folded continuous forms.

What features do you particularly like?
Excellent registration without much wastage of paper and very quick set up during job change-over.

Is there anything that you dislike?
The manufacturers have used DC motors for driving the main shaft which may require some maintenance after a few years of operation. Instead they should use AC motors.

Is there anything that you wish it had that it doesn’t?
Sometimes the paper we use has extra dust and fluff and I think the machine should have a dedicated dust removal device at the unwind unit.

How fast is it?
We usually run the machine at speeds of 180mpm whereas the maximum speed of the machine is 250mpm.

How reliable is it?
It is a very reliable and robust machine and the running cost of consumables is low.

What’s the quality like?
The print quality is very good. In fact with UV curing it matches the print quality of sheetfed offset presses.

How easy is it to use?
Once the functions are grasped by the operators, all the operations are very user friendly.

How much time or money has it saved?
It has saved a lot of money in terms of spare parts and consumables as the need to change parts are reduced.

Has it won you any new work?
It has increased our capacity and enhanced the quality of the present work being done by us.

Would you say that it offers value for money?
Yes, definitely.

Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
The machine was installed in two working days by the Rotatek engineers, after which they conducted a week long training explaining all the features of the machine and its operations.

What about the pre and after-sales service?
The after-sales service has been excellent from Creed Engineers as they have well-trained mechanical and electronics engineers to attend to any breakdown. They have service offices in all the major cities and their engineers are prompt.

Who do you think the system is right for?
The machine is good for narrow web printing of paper reels to get output in sheets, folded forms and rolls.

Under what circumstances would you buy another?
If there is an increase in volume of print orders in future.
