Henkel opens production facility in Kurkumbh

Henkel Adhesives Technologies has invested about Rs 392 crores on a new production facility in Kurkumbh, India, near Pune. The unit measures 100,000 sqm and it has a built-up area of 51,000 sqm, which according to Henkel makes it India’s largest adhesive manufacturing site.

Jan-Dirk Auris, executive vice president, Henkel Adhesive Technologies, said, “India is one of the most important emerging markets with tremendous growth opportunities for our adhesives business. Our trusted brands and leading solutions based on our unmatched portfolio of 40 technologies create sustainable value for our customers.”

Designed as a smart factory the new plant enables a wide range of Industry 4.0 operations. And it aims to cater to the Indian market with sealants and surface treatment products.  Henkel expects the unit to bolster its capabilities to serve customers across various markets including flexible packaging, automotive, agriculture and construction equipment, general industry and metals.

Auris added, “With the launch of this state-of-the-art, multi-technology manufacturing facility, we have created capacities to meet the demands for our high impact solutions in this dynamic market. This investment will enable us to further drive profitable growth.”

According to press note shared with WhatPackaging?, the new site is equipped with technologies to ensure traceability and transparency and to exceed the high standards for quality and safety in the industry. In addition, the end-to-end digitalisation of the plant operations also ensures digitised workflows for a higher efficiency in manufacturing.

The new site is also among the few chemical manufacturing sites to be awarded the LEED Gold certification by the US Green Building Council, which is based on a holistic energy efficiency concept.
